The series of biannual conferences on Viruses of Microbes, which began in Paris in 2010 and has since travelled throughout Europe, will arrive in Tbilisi in 2023. The organizers are excited to announce that this conference will take place in Tbilisi, Georgia, on July 3-7, 2023. The conference heralds the beginning of a new era in viral research, beginning with the recognition of viruses of microorganisms – viruses of bacteria, archaea, and microbial eukaryotes – as a dominant component of the biosphere, and leading to the identification of these viruses as major players in global ecology, public health, microbial physiology, and evolution.
The conference will provide a forum for discussions on all aspects of research on viruses of bacteria, archaea, and unicellular eukaryotes, including new perspectives on virus taxonomy and topics ranging from the role and diversity of viruses in different ecosystems to the development of virus-inspired new technologies.
