The International Society for Prenatal Diagnosis (ISPD) was founded in 1996 to address the need to advance prenatal diagnosis and therapy medical practice and science by bringing together a global multidisciplinary group of medical and scientific professionals with interests and expertise in a wide range of clinical and research aspects of prenatal diagnosis and fetal care.
The Society began as a group of internationally recognized experts and has since expanded to a global society with over 400 members from various disciplines such as prenatal and perinatal care, medical genetics, basic and translational science, genetic counselling, laboratory management, fetal therapy, ultrasonography, and ethics. While we work on all aspects of prenatal diagnosis and therapy, we have a special focus and experience in reproductive and prenatal genetic screening, as well as how this component of care integrates with other disciplines.
The primary mission of ISPD is to advance the science and practice of prenatal diagnosis through research, education, and advocacy. The organization aims to promote high-quality prenatal diagnosis and counseling for individuals and families at risk for genetic and other prenatal conditions. ISPD also advocates for ethical and responsible use of prenatal diagnostic technologies.
ISPD conducts regular conferences and meetings, publishes scientific journals and guidelines, and provides education and training resources for healthcare professionals involved in prenatal diagnosis. The organization also collaborates with other professional societies and advocacy groups to promote prenatal health and improve patient care.
