In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a medical procedure used to help people or couples who are having trouble getting pregnant. In vitro fertilization (IVF) includes fertilizing an egg with sperm outside the body in a laboratory dish, followed by the implantation of the fertilized embryo into the uterus. The primary objective of IVF is to give patients the chance to conceive using their own eggs, donor eggs, and sperm from either their partner or a donor. When alternative therapies have been ineffective or are inappropriate, this elective operation is intended to cause the patient to get pregnant.
